Every time I see another thing like this, my firm adherence to the idea that history is complicated and big events can’t be laid at the feet of a single person gets a little shakier.
I can’t stop thinking about how beautifully the Barbie movie portrays that often times when men (speaking in very binary terms, apologies) are hurt and feel wronged they’ll act out in ways that hurt people, may that be purposefully or inadvertently. And society enforces this. Meanwhile women, who are used to living in a hostile world, will often express and process their pains in ways that don’t harm others.
But Ken never wanted to hurt anyone. He just was hurt and didn’t know how to deal with it. He found the first thing that gave him an outlet and some inkling of comfort and latched onto it. And after Ken has had his supposed “villain arc”, Barbie isn’t mad at him. She lets him know it’s okay to cry.
The villain was never Ken himself, it was the fact that society is built in a way that prevents men from having ways to safely process and regulate their emotions. A society that punishes men for crying and confiding in friends and wanting to be comforted.
The Barbie movie isn’t anti men. It’s a big fuck you to our society that is hellbent on keeping everyone in an eternal cycle of hurt.

The AI issue is what happens when you raise generation after generation of people to not respect the arts. This is what happens when a person who wants to major in theatre, or English lit, or any other creative major gets the response, “And what are you going to do with that?” or “Good luck getting a job!”
You get tech bros who think it’s easy. They don’t know the blood, sweat, and tears that go into a creative endeavor because they were taught to completely disregard that kind of labor. They think they can just code it away.
That’s (one of the reasons) why we’re in this mess.
im at a restaurant right now and there’s this like 16 year old kid sitting at the table next to me completely alone with like 6 racks of ribs. hes eating like 1 rib every 10 seconds and the poor server who was assigned to him has to keep getting him new ribs. ive been here for an hour just watching this kid inhale ribs like he’s gonna die the next day. he probably will given the amount of hot sauce he put on them
i cannot stress enough that this is a stick-thin teenage child sitting alone at a restaurant absolutely going to town on these ribs. this child is eating like hes trying to personally rid the world of ribs. i’ve been timing him, he orders a full other rack of ribs every 2 minutes. this is fucking insane i dont know what to do
